 Saturday 8th October
Anniversary Afternoon Tea
Warkworth Town Hall, Alnwick St, Warkworth, 3pm

The town hall is 100 years old and everyone is welcome to come and enjoy an old-fashioned afternoon tea and share their memories of occasions in the hall. A plate or a gold-coin donation would be welcomed, but is not compulsory.

The Town Hall is a Category 1 Historic building and is a rare example of hollow stoneware block construction in Australasia, an early rival to modern concrete block technology. Officially opened in October 1911, the hall became a focus of community events, including the showing of silent films. In 1937 the addition of an avant-garde extension at the front incorporated offices for the Town Board (now occupied by the Women's Centre). The hall was a gathering place for large numbers of American and New Zealand troops stationed near Warkworth during WWII. Since then it has been used for events as diverse as dance lessons, community fairs, flower show and sheep shearing competitions.
